    Report of the Board of Management for the Year 1942 My Lords, Ladies and Genteemen, The Board of Management have pleasure in presenting to the Governors the 195th Report and Statement of Accounts which cover the year ended December 31st, 1942. Unhappily when making such a report it is necessary to preface it with a reference to loss sustained by the passing of loyal friends of the Hospital, and we regret particularly to have to refer to the death of the following:— The Viscount Boyne«>and Mr.- E- B. Fielden who were both past Treasurers in 1926 and 1918 respectively; to Mr. W. Swire, a past Treasurer and a member of the Weekly Board and its successor the Board of Management for twenty-eight years ; to Mr. H. L- Grocott, a Governor of the Hospital and a member of the Special Board, who had the unique distinction of never being absent from a meeting at the Hospital to which he was convened, and to the Hon. Mrs. Lambart who gave considerable help to the Hospital as a member and latterly as Chairman of the Ladies’ Auxiliary Committee and for a number of years as organiser of Hospital Egg Week. We deplore the passing of so many good friends and remember them thankfully for the great help which they gave to the Hospital during their lifetimes. When presenting statistics of the work and finances of the Hospital each year since 1936 The Board have been at pains to explain that for various reasons—formerly the rebuilding and re-organisation of the Hospital, and latterly the upgrading of the Hospital and its Annexes for Emergency Medical Service purposes a comparison of our establishment of one year with that of another would be misleading, and in consequence reliance should not be placed upon statistical comparison, but comparison should only be used as a general indication of progress and as a measure of the volume of work performed in the Hospital. On this occasion we can invite you to rely completely upon statistical comparison as the actual measure of our progress and the extent of our usefulness, because our establishment has remained constant during the past year and compares exactly with that of the previous years. In presenting the following brief record of work performed, your Board of Management extend their most cordial thanks to members of the Staff—Honorary Staff, Resident Staff, Domestic, Administrative and the Works Staffs, who, by their individual contributions, have in the aggregate made possible the successful accomplishment of an enormous volume of work under conditions of considerable difficulty.
