    MATRON’S REPORT, 1942. To the Chain-nan of the Board of Management. Sir, I beg to report on the work of my department for the year 1942. This year has seen many changes in the Nursing Staff ; several of the former members are now serving overseas in the Q.A.I.M.N.S.R. Resignations. Miss Williams, Men’s Medical Wa*rd Sister. Mrs. Wadsworth, Junior Night Sister. Miss Lloyd, Sister-in-Charge Market Drayton Annexe. Miss Huxley and Miss Grocott, Sisters-in-Charge Hodnet Hall Auxiliary Hospital. • Appointments. Miss Black, Men’s Medical Ward Sister. Miss Lloyd, Sister-in-Charge Hodnet Hall Auxiliary Hospital. Staff-Nurse Swann, Sister-in-Charge Market Drayton Annexe. Staff-Nurse Harrison, Junior Night Sister. Twenty-four Student Nurses have entered during the year, twelve in January and twelve in June ; each set has had six weeks Preliminary training before doing full-time duty in the Wards. Ten nurses have been successful in passing the Final State Examination and twenty-three the Preliminary State Examination. The Hospital Examination was held in October, when thirteen nurses qualified for Certificates. The Harley Memorial Medals were awarded to the following nurses:— Gold Medal Standard (80% of the total marks): Joyce Evans, 85%, awarded Gold Medal. Silver Medal Standard (70% of the total marks): Doris Edwards and Margaret Corfield, 79% awarded Silver Medals. Luba Epsztejn, 76% awarded Matron’s Prize. Five other nurses reached Silver Medal Standard. On November 21st Dame Alicia Lloyd Still, D.B.E., R.R.C., Matron of St. Thomas’s Hospital 1913-1938 presented the Certifi¬ cates. It was a memorable day for the nurses ; her talk will be an inspiration to them in their future work and we shall all remember
