![Chemists : 19 chemists or firms of chemists, with 22 shops. 12 appliance suppliers. Ophthalmic Medical Practitioners: 1. Ophthalmic Opticians : 13 (and 1 assistant). Dispensing Opticians : 1. During the year, one resident doctor resigned, and three assistants entered into partnership with their principals. Two non-residents were added to the list and one non-resident prac- titioner died. In March, 1961, a firm of dispensing opticians entered into contract with the Ophthalmic Services Committee to provide a dispensing service. Under the Medical Practices Committee system of classifica- tion Bury continues to be regarded as an “ intermediate ” area. Applications from doctors to practice in the area will normally be approved. The gross cost of the general medical services, including the maternity medical services and superannuation, etc., was ;£108,755. Pharmaceutical Services cost £11^^211; in addition patients contributed £1^,120. The general dental services cost ;{]35,115, and in addition patients paid ;{J10,418. Consideration was given to 7 applications for the replacement of lost or damaged dentures. The supplementary ophthalmic service cost ;^14,959, and patients contributed an additional ;,£7,904. The cost for the year of all the services administered by the Council was ;;f282,299. Administrative expenses amounted to ;C7,259. Natianal Assistance Act, 1943. Section 47.
