![designate the quantity of’ that neutral body, which is supposed to act as an acid in respect to the other. Thus we must say:— Bi-deutal-amide 2 C2H40 + H3N— Aq ; Tri-deutal-enelide .... 3 C2H‘0 + 2 H3N—2 Aq; Tri-deutal-eliside .... 3 C2H40 + 2 H3N—3 Aq ; and in supposing the ammonia replaced by aniline, we should have to say anilic bideutalamide, anilic trideutalenelide, &c. Tiiese words are, however, too complicated, and as the bodies to which they apply are not at all common (hydrobenzamide, thiakline, &c.), we might provisionally give to them any names whatever. Let us now pass to another series, of which the nucleus is C7H°, and let us name this series the benzo-picrolic ; then by substituting the roots bcnz and pier for the preceding ones, we shall have:— Benzene C7H6 Hydrobenzene or picrenc.... C7H6 + H2 Chloride of benzene C7H6 + Cl2 Benzal C7Hu + 0 Acil,s J benzoric .... C7HG + O2 C7H« + 03 Picrol C7He + H20 Benzine C7HS (NH2) Picrine C7H7 (NH2) Benzelamidc C7IPO (IHN) t, , . \ benzinic... Benzeiaimde s ( picrinic.... C7H50 (CHFN) C7IPO (C7H8N> Etc.... I make use of the following roots order:— for the series of the first Series ])roto-metholic .... C IP audCH4 y y deuter-etholic .... C2H‘ and C2IP yy tere-triadolic ....
