Many blank forms have been introduced in the appendices as it is believed that these often illustrate methods of work better than any verbal description. A subject index will be found but no place index. A place index without reference to the subject with which the place is connected is of little use and one with such reference would have con- siderably increased the size of an already too bulky volume.
