No text description is available for this image![74 Livius (Trrus) DE Secunpo BEtLto Punico Lispri x, ILLv- MINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM [ITALIAN, xvth CENT.] 230 leaves (14din. by 91in.) written in neat roman characters on fine vellum, 34 long lines to a page, the first page within full borders very finely painted in gold and colours with a design of natural flowers and fruit, illuminated with large dots of bur- nished gold, 8 small miniatures within gilt borders are introduced, and numerous figures of Amorini, birds, animals and grotesques occur, in the lower border is a coat-of-arms upheld by Amorini, surrounded by a circular gilt border containing 8 cherubim, the title heading ws painted in large capitals of burnished gold, at beginning of the text 1s a miniature (2in. by 2in.) depicting a knight in black armour holding a sword, mounted on a white charger, a castle in the background ; at the commencement of Books II-X 1s a large initial in burnished gold, decorated in the typical Italian style of interlaced white vine stems and leaves on blue, red and green grounds, old vellum, slightly wormed at beginning and end c. 1450 *_* AN EXTREMELY FINE SPECIMEN OF ITALIAN CALLIGRAPHY AND ILLUMINATION.
