NEW YORK TRIBUNE :—“‘ The first number is a well-made affair of some forty pages, with a fair proportion of text, but with most of the space given—as collectors would desire—to reproductions of interesting examples.. The numerous illustrations are judiciously selected; they are reproduced by an adequate process; and the bebe magazine is well printed. Altogether, this is calculated to be of distinct interest and use to book-plate enthusiasts. NEW YORK TIMES :—“The Autumn number of the new quarterly, Artistic Book Plates, published by George F. Kelly, of this city, has just made its appearance, and will be found entirely satisfactory in every way. Its typography, initial letters, cover, title page, and general arrangement are artistic; its illustrations adequate and pleasing, while its letter press is interesting. The magazine is attractively printed on good paper, the tone of which is soft. The initial letters, text illustrations, and full-page cuts are arate nae and include about seventy- five reproductions of all varieties of modern ex libris, including good specimens of recent American, Hastiah, and foreign plates. This department alone makes the magazine a necessity for ex libris collectors. The text consists of three articles; one, the first of a series upon American designers of book plates, taking up the work of William Fisher, of Fargo, N. D., whose plates are attracting attention among collectors. Another good article is ‘‘Book Plates and the Nude,” while best of all is a paper by Mr. Temple Scott, ‘‘The Artistic Book Plate,’ in which a somewhat hackneyed subject is treated in most original fashion.”’ BROOKLYN EAGLE :—‘“‘ The workmanship on the magazine is excellent, and, but for the commonness of good printing, would be called remarkable.” ; THE LITERARY COLLECTOR (New York) :—‘‘The first issue of this magazine is gotten out in very artistic style.’ BOOK AND NEWSDEALER (New York) :—‘ Admirably fills a distinct field, and will be welcomed among book lovers everywhere.”’ GEORGE F.
