'I'he following letter and Memorandum was received from the Bocal (Government Board in July - (Circular ; County Councils and Sanitar>- Authorities.) Local Government Board, Whitehall, vS.W. 30th Julv, ipi-j. .MA'riiRXlTY AND CHII.D WKIJ'ARH. Sir, 1 am directed by the Local Government Board to state that an estimate has been laid before Parliament for a grant to be tlistri- buted by the Board in aid of the expenditure of local authorities and voluntary agencies in resjx'ct of institutions or other provision for maternity and child welfare. This grant, if voted by Parliament, will be made in aid of exj)enditure in re.spect of clinics, dispensaries or other institutions primarily concerned with the provi.sion of medical and surgical advice and treatment, as well as in respect of the salaries of health visitors and o^hcr officers engaged for this work. 1 he Local Government Board have in recent years devoted consideral)le attention to questions connected with infant welfare, and they have observed with much satisfaction that efforts have btvn nxade by many local authorities and voluntary' agencies, to deal with the matter.
