![(40 ^ From all thele Proceedings it is ealie to gather with' what Refolution and Privacy the Dr. has carried on this Darling Proje£tP and with what mean- nels he unworthily leeks to extricate himfelf from a Dilpute , that he has no Heart to engage in. But if the Dr. is convinc’d in his Judgment, that the Trepan was a ’proper Inftrument in Mr. lVorger7s Cafe, Why this Retirement? If he is lb well read in Gales of ConcuSion, as to Trepan without External Indica¬ tions, and neceffary Symptoms of extravalation upon the Membranes of the Brain, and if he is fo well Vers’d in the Opinions and Practices cc of £c all Judicious Phyficians, and Surgeons, as to * look upon me as mac- quainted in Bufinels, ” Let-him come forth, and like a Phyftcian produce his Authorities. If not, it will be ealy to conjetlure, what fort of Phyficians rand Surgeons he refers himfelf to, when he affirms €C that it is not againft €C Praflice to raife the Scalp and ufe 'the Trepan upon SUCH a -f' Fall and a fuch Symptoms. 55 I do acknowledge with Concern, that there may be lome few Surgeons, who through Vain-glory, Avarice, or Temerity may ufe the meanell of Arts to Perform this or any other Operation of moment, Regardlels of the Abfurdity or Hazard of it *, and there may be lome few Phyficians who through Ignorance or want of Courage to over-rule them, may admit of it, but I mult have better Authorities than any •concern’d in this Cafe, before I lhall allow it to be a Realonable Prac¬ tice* But why Ihould the Dr. leem at a difiance to be layinglbmething for an Operation, that he don’t think fit to ovon, as any part of his Dilpute ? If He is fenfible that he fail'd in his Duty to his Patient, in declining the Conference with me, and in fettirg afide the Trepan, upon amiftaken notion of its being too late, I defire that he would pleafe to defend from this General way of talking, and apply himfelf to the Particulars of Mr. Worgefs Cafe. And here I would be inform’d, what Vfe the Dr. will make of the Fijfures he mentions which I hope will Dilpofe him to name the particular place, where he would have apply7d the Trepan when it was Propos'd, If he would have had no regard to outward Indications, he would fcarce have chofin the * F, A. ]\ n. + However in this Cafe it is moft advifeable to wait, till Symptoms appear, fince the l1pperfabie maybe ckfr, and the Lower remain entire.
