    05 servations, and shall compare them with what other authors have said on the subject. I find in most works on Mineralogy that men- tion is made of the lime stone about Bath being not fully saturated with carbonic acid. It has been stated, that when sulphur is united with it in the manner in which calca- reous sulphuret is made, that a true hepar was produced. This experiment I have re- peated, and the stone which I made use of, and which was fresh from the quarry, shewed no signs of its containing pure lime. The internal part of a large mass was taken for the experiments I made to ascertain this fact. It is possible however that the lime stone round Bath may vary in its composition. The Bath Waters contain a large propor- tion of selenite or sulphate of lime. This ap- pears from the crystals which are formed on evaporating these wraters and from the tests which have been employed. Doctor Falconer has made some observations on the crystalli- zation of selenite. To produce large crys- tals of this substance I find the following
