![KENNEDY, JAMES CHARLES, Bata- via, O., was born in Butler co.. Pa., Feh. illh, 1809. Was educated at. the com- mon schools and the mail. coll. of O., from which he graduated in 1S38. Practised first at Felicity and then at Batavia. \Vas ap- pointed by the Ohio legislature member of the commission sent to bring the remains of Gen. Haines from Mexico in Feb., 1846. The f;)llowing year he was elected to the legisla- ture. Is a member of the Am. med. asso.; of the Ohio State med. soc, and of the Cler- mont CO. med. soc; of the bst he has been corresponding secretary or president since its organization in 1S53. Formerly he was a contributor to the IVc'steni, Lancet Was surgeon of a regmnent of U. S. infantry in transit hrim Newqiort, Ky., to Mexico in 1846. Has been twice married—in 1835 and 1S50. JONES, CHARLES IIYLAND, Balti- more, Md., was born in Somerset co., Md., Oct. 1st, 1S28; attended Baltimore med. institute and the univ. of Md., graduat- ing M. D. from the latter in i85i,and set- tling in Baltimore. Ij a meniber of the Baltimore med. asso., and was elected presi- dent Feb. 22d, 18S9; and of the med. and chirurg. faculty of Md., elected vice-president April, 1877. Served for four years as act. ass't surg. in U. S. army, being for a portion of the time surgeon in charge of the Jarvis IJ. S. army general hosp. Is now a director in the Drovers' and Mechanics' bank. BROWN, JACOB R., Sumptious Prairie, Ind., was born, Dec. 7th, 1S23, at Augusta, O. He graduated in medicine in 1849, having settled in 1845 at Osnaburgh, O., from which he removed in 1851 to Sumptious Prairie, Ind. He is a member of the Ind. State med. asso., which he repre- sented in the Am. med. asso. in 1877 '■> of '^e St. Joseph's Valley dis't med. asso., which he assisted to organize; and of the St. Joseph's CO. med. asso., of which he is one of the founders. In Oct., 1862, he was commis- sioned ass't surg. of the 29th Ind. vol. infan- try. He married in 1848. NORTH, JOHN, Keokuk, Iowa, was born, Feb. 28Lh, 1844, at Middleton, Columbiana co., O. He is of Quaker parent- age, and is himself a member of the Society of Friends. He was educated at a select Friends' school, and graduated from the med. dep't of the univ. of Mich, in 1868. He first settled at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, whence he moved to Iowa City, where he was demons, of anat. in the Iowa State univ. from 1870 to 1873. He filled the chair of anatomy in the coll. of phys. and surg. at Keokuk in 1875 and 1876, and since the latter year has filled the chair of chemistry, toxicology and materia medica in the same institution. He is a member of the Am. med. asso., of tlie Iowa State med. soc, and of the Iowa union med. asso. lie is at present preparing a work on Medical Chemistry. Prof. North's Pro- cess for Preventing Incrustation in Steam Boilers, patented Jan. 15th, 1878, is the fruit of his invention. He married, June I2lh, 1872, Caddie Boydston, of Davenport, Iowa. LYMAN, JOSEPH WALTER, Towan- da, Pa., of Vermont parentage, was born, Aug. 17th, 1823, in Susquehanna co.. Pa. Tlaving attended Ilarpard acad. in his native county for three years, he read medi- cine with the late Dr. B. A. Bouton, of Scranton, Pa., for six years, during which period he took two full courses of lectures at the Jefferson med. coll., from which he grad- uated in 1849. After practising in Wyoming CO., Pa., twenty-three years, he removed in 1870 to Towanda, Bradford co., his present residence. He has no specialty, but jirefers obstetric practice. He is a member of the Bradford co. med. soc, of which he was elected vice-president in 1877. He has held the office of postmaster for several years. During the civil war he was for one year exam. surg. of permits and drafted men for the 13th dis't. He married, Jan. 3d, 1854, and has one child. eFOREST, DANIEL A., Boonville, Ind., was born, Nov. 6th, 1833, in W^arrick co., Ind. He was educated at Greencastle, Ind., and graduated at tlie Yale med. coll. in March, 1858, settling first in Ashleysburg, Ky., whence in 1862 he re- moved to Newburg, Ind., and thence in 1869 to Boonville, in that State. He is a member of the Tri-State med. soc. of Ind., III., and Ky.; and of the med. asso. of War- rick CO., of which he was elected vice-presi- dent in June, 1876. During the civil war lie was ass't surg. in the 25th Ky. infantry. He married Nov. 2d, 1858. JONES, JOHNSTON BLAKELEY, Char- lotte, N. C, was born at Rock-Rest, Chatham co., N. C, Sept. I2lh, 1814; son of Col. Edward Jones, for many years attorney- general of North Carolina. Was educated at schools at llillsboro' and Raleigh, and at the univ. of N. C, excejit the junior year. Studied surgery under M. Penochaud, at La Charite (Velpeau), and medicine at Ilott;! Dieu (Roger) and the Venereal hos]i. (Ricord), in Paris, for two yer.rs.
