Is a member of the Brown and Adams co. med. soc. ; of the Brown co. acad. of med.; of the Ohio State med. soc.; and of the Am. med. asso. Was married in April, 1857. GRIER, JOHN HAYES, Oriole, Lycom- ing CO., Pa., was born at or near to the Brandywine Manor Church, Chester co.. Pa., in 1814, his father being Rev. John Hayes Grier. He graduated at Jefferson med. coll., Philadelphia, in 1840, and settled first in Sen- eca CO., O.; then returned to Pennsylvania, and finally located in Nippenose Valley in 1859. Is a member of the med. soc. of Wil- liamsport, and has served as vice-president. Married Amanda Malvina Quiggle in 1840, and has had seven children. PLATT, GIDEON L., Waterbury, Conn., was born in Middlebury, Conn., July 20th, 1813. He graduated in medicine irom Yale coll., med. dep't, in 1838, and located himself at Waterbury, where he has ever since resided. His practice is surgical, ob- stetrical, and general. He is a fellow of the Conn. med. soc, and a member of the Am. med. asso. He married in 1843. His eldest son has been a practising physician for six or seven years, and his second son is now a student of medicine in Baden, Prussia. ENRY, FREDERICK PORTEOUS, Philadelphia, Pa. ; born in Cranbury, N. J., July 2ist, 1844, of Scotch parentage; received his education in New York, Brook- lyn, Tours (France), Dresden (Germany), and at Princeton, N. J. He graduated in medicine from the coll. of phys. and siug.. New York, in 1868. Settled first in that city, and moved to Philadelphia in 1869. He is a member of the patholog. soc, of Phil- adelphia, of which he was treasurer in 1876; and of the Philadelphia co. med. soc. He has contributed articles to the PJiiladelphia Medical Times and to the Transactions of the patholog. soc. of Philadelphia. Is ]:)hysician to the hospital of the Protestant Episcopal Church, Philadelphia. Is married. LONG, ISAAC S., Freehold, N. J., was born, June 28th, 1839, at Hughesville, Warren co., N. J.; was educated at home, and at Easton, Pa.; graduated from the med. dep't of the univ. of Pa. in 1866. Practised at Englishtown for six years ; then reifloved Xo Freehold. Is a member of the N. J. State med. soc, and of the Monmouth co. med. soc, of which he was president in 1S6S. Was married, June 12th, 1872, to Jennie E. Drummond. JILLSON, BENJAMIN CUTLER, Pitts- burgh, Pa., jjorn at Willimantic, Conn., July 15111, 1830; graduated in letters at Yale coll. He studied medicine at the univ. of Louisville, and at the univ. of Nashville; graduated from the latter M. D. in 1S57, and settled first in Nashville, and then in Pitts- burgh, lie is a member of the Am. asso. for the advancement of science; of the Alle- gheny CO. med. soc.; of the Pa. State med. soc; and of the Am. med. asso.; and has held all the oflices in the first named since its formation in 1865. He served three years in the Union army as ass't surg.; has filled the chair of zoology and botany in the western univ. of Pa.; and is now principal of the Pittsburgh high school. TOLAND, II. I-L, San Francisco, Cal., prof, of the principles and practiae of surgery in the Poland med. coll., San Fran- cisco, is a member of the med. soc. of the State of Cal;, and of the Am. med. asso. OMANS, CHARLES D., Boston, Mass., was educated at Harvard univ., where he graduated A. B. in 1846, and M. D. in 1849. He is a member of the Mass. med. soc, to which he was admitted in 1850, and in which he serves as member of the committee on finance; of the Suffolk dis. med. soc, of which he is a councillor; of the Mass. med. benevolent soc.; of the Boston med. asso.; of the Boston soc. for med. improvement; of the obstetrical soc of Bos- ton, of which he was first vice-president in 1876-77. lie is visiting surgeon to the city hosp. HODGES,RICHARD M.,Boston,Mass., was educated at Harvard univ.,graduat- ing A.
