Ilarvey, a tloscendant of one of the earliest settlers in the Wyoming valley, born in Kingston, Lu- zerne CO., Pa., Sept. 28th, 1846. Graduated from the Wyoming seminary A. B. in July, 1S71 ; from the Lafayette coll., Easton, Pa., and from the med. dep't of the univ. of Pa. ; and settled in Wilkesbai-re, where lie has made a specialty of diseases of women. lie is a member of the Luzerne co. med. soc.; was president of the board of control of the Wilkesbarre public schools; served in the yth Pa. reserves; is phys. in charge of Lu- zerne CO. prison, and attend, phys. of the Wilkesbarre city hosp. In May, 1873, ^^'^ married S. J. Smith, of Pittston, Pa. ALL, JOHN C, Philadelphia, Pa.,son of Nathan Hail and Merah Hall, born in Mt, Pleasant, Jefferson co.,0., March 12th, 1S42, was educated at a Mt. Pleasant school and graduated from the med. dep't of tlie univ. of Pa. in the spring of 1868. P'or fifteen months he held the position of res. phys. to the Philadelphia hosp., after which he settled in Frankford, Philadelphia, where lie practised medicine till 1S76. In that year lie was elected ass't phys. to the Friends' asylum, and in 1877 sup'c of that institution. lie has also been ass't surg. to the Episcopal hosp., visiting phys. to the Jewish hosp., and vaccine phys. in Frankford. He is a member of the Philadelphia co. med. soc. In Sept., 1S70, he married ]\Iary II. Dutton, of I'rankford. ROWLAND, LEVI LINDSAY, Salem, Oregon, was born in Huntingdon, Carroll co., Tenn., Sept. 17th, 1S31, and moved with his father to Oregon in 1844. I-^ of English extraction. \Vas educated at Bethany coll., W. Va., graduating A. B. in 1856, and receiving subsequently in course the degree of A. M. His medical degree was conferred by the med. dep't of Willa- mette univ., Salem, Oregon, in 1870. For the most part his life has been passed in teaching. He has been principal of Bethel collegiate institute; president of Christian coll.; one year prof, of pathol. in the med. dep't of Willamette univ., and five years in the same institution as prof, of physiol. and microscopy; is now dean of the coll. Is a member of the Marion co., Oregon, med. soc, of the Third Judicial dis't med. soc, and of the Oregon State med. soc; of the last named he was treasurer for three years, and was elected president in June, 1877. Is as- sociate editor of the Oregon Alcdical yournal. Was elected sup't of public schools, June, i860; appointed postmaster in Bethel in 1S62; phys. and surg. in U. S. service at Malheur Indian agency in 1873; elected^ State sup't of public instruction in 1874 for four years, l>eing the only person then elected on the Repulilican Slate ticket. ANDERSON, BOZWELL P., Colorado Springs, Col., was born in Albemarle CO., Va., Aug. 13th, 1847; was educated at the univ. of Va., and received his degree in medicine from that institution in 1868, and from Washington med. coll., Baltimore, in 1869. First settled in Howard co., Mo.; then at Marshall, Saline co.. Mo.; removed to Colorado in 1872 on account of bronchial and throat affection. Is a member of the Col. State med. soc, and was elected ass't sec. in June, 1S77. OWMAN, ORIN NELSON, Rome's' Pump, S. C, was born in Orangeburg CO., S. C, Feb. 22d, 1834, and is descended from Dutch and English stock. He was educated at Orangeburg high school, and re- ceived his degree of M. D. from the S. C. med. coll. in 1857. In his practice, which has always been pursued in his native county, he had a case of abscess of the A\'omb, point- ing and opening through the alKloraen after four or five weeks duration; it came on just after labor; terminated favorably. He is a member of the Orangeburg co. med. soc.; of the S. C. med. asso. During the war served as ass't surg. in 14111 rcg. S. C. militia. COMEGYS, CORNELIUS GEORGE, Cincinnati, O., was born at Cherburg, the family mansion, Kent co., Del., July 23d, 1S16. His father was governor of Delaware, 1S39-42, and was a descendant of a Ger- man-Holland family that settled in Kent co., Md., in 1660. Dr. Comegys was educated in the Dover acad., Del. It was his plan to have entered on the study of medicine at the usual time, but circumstances led him to Indiana, where he embarked i.i business, which ended unsuccessfully after several years of effort. He then went to Philadelphia, and entered upon the study of medicine as a student of Prof. W. E. Horner. He gradu- ated in the class of 1848 of the univ. of Pa. He began work in Philadelphia, but removed to Cincinnati in 1849, where the advent of the Asiatic cholera that year gave him the opportunity of obtaining a large practice.
