![ral kinds of it under certain general claffes; diftinguifhing it, moft ufually, into rock or foffil fait, fea fait, and brine or fountain fait. To which claffes, others might be added of thofe muriatic falts which are found in vege¬ table and animal fubftances. These feveral kinds of common fait often differ from each other in their outward form and appearance, or in fuch accidental pro¬ perties as they derive from the heterogeneous fubftances with which they are mixed. Lifter indeed (in his treatife De font. Med. A?i^ gli^^ L.i. c.i. §iii.) takes notice that the cryftals of fea fait differ fomewhat in figure from thofe of fountain and foffil fait i and feems to think this a great difeovery.
