    Leaving therefore thefe divifions to thofc whom they may concern ; it will, for our prefent purpofe, be more proper to dlftinguiili common fait after a different manner, into the three following kinds, viz. into rock or native fait, bay fait, and white fait. By rock fait, or native fait, is under flood all fait dug out of the earth, which hath not undergone any artificial preparation. Under the title of bay fait may be ranked all kinds of common fait extradled from the water wherein it is diffolved by means of the fun’s heat, and the operation of the air. Whe¬ ther the water, from which it is extradled, be fea water, or natural brine drawn from wells and fprings, or fait water flagnating in ponds and lakes.
