Linen League. The League has supplied 750 articles to the Hospital and has satisfied the Matron’s require¬ ments The League received ^35 5s. 9d., proceeds of a dance, and has a balance in hand of ^63 10s. 2d., which will be useful when the larger quantities of linen are needed for the new beds. The League has now 673 members, an increase of 78 on last year. 7. Almoner’s Report. The Lady Almoner reports that more people are daily realising the value of the H.S.A. as a good investment for times of illness, and this has probably helped to reduce the number of patients who have been unable to contri¬ bute anything towards their maintenance. There is still, however, a large number of these patients on the books, and as noticed previously, a big percentage came from outside the Truro area. During the year only a few patients were able to pay the full cost of a bed. There has been a notable increase in H.S.A. patients, 938 having received treatment, compared with 629 last year. Thirty motor accident cases were admitted, for which the Hospital has received to date ^125 16s. od., the full cost of the bed being obtained in ten out of sixteen cases settled. Four of the other cases who could sustain no claim were H.S.A. patients. The X-ray Department has also shown increase, and although there have been several patients who could only contri¬ bute a small proportion of the cost, the fees received have been £4°7, as against ^311 last year. Cases under the Workmen’s Compensation Act still continue to be an unsatisfactory feature of the Hospital’s finances, as treatment is often lengthy and expensive and payment uncertain. H.S.A.
