When the case depends upon depraved or deficient bil; t secretions, much reliance may be placed upon the efficiency of a remedy if it be carried to the extent of fully alterating the systenjlfi.' PCLiS. The use of mild laxatives in Tiomiorrhoids has long been a favc practice for their relief. The beneficial effects of the water in disease is probably to some extent due to its laxative power, but more, I apprehend, to its alterative effect upon the liver thro which the haemorrhoidal vessels are favorably impressed. Q>f ttt© The White Sulphur Water are used with very good effectsj Gravel; indeed, they almost invariably palliate such cases, and 1 quently, in their early stages, entirely cure them. Incipient calculus affections are relieved by the water pretty mi in proportions as it corrects the digestive and assimilating functic^ improves the blood, and brings the general economy into a natq type, preparing the kidneys to resist foreign encroachments uj their functions, and to elaborate, from healthy blood, proper i healthy secretions.* Where the affection depends upon acid predc^ inance in the fluids, the water never fails to palliate, and often cuj the case. Whether or not this water should be preferred to otl remedies in calculus affections, depends upon the diathesis that p vails in the system ; and hence, the urine should always be carefn analyzed, that we may not act in the dark in such cases. Chronic inflammation of the kidneys, as well as similar affectia of the bladder and urethra, are often successfully treated by a jui cious use of the waters. I have treated numerous cases of Qatar ^ of the Bladder successfully by a proper use of the water, and otl ' ^^,.^'^of^iopriate remedies in connection with it, always regarding I water, however, as the leading remedy in the case. Diabetes is a form of disease in which the waters have occasional been used with excellent effect. Spermatorrhoea, often painfully implicating the nervous systej and producing extreme debility not only of the sexual organs li al.<o of the general system, is often greatly bonefitted at these Spring This disease is generally found complicated with a condition of t slcin and glandular organs, and not unfrcquently of the mucous si faces, that eminently require the aid of alterative remedies. In i such complications the waters are found very valuable as a prima means, preceding and preparing the system for the use of me decided tonic remedies.
