OF THE FIFTEENTH CENTURY, ON VELLUM, ff. 103, finely written in small gothic and lettres batardes, in three and four columns, WITH SIX LARGE ILLUMINATIONS, AND ILLUMINATED BORDERS AND INITIALS. Old calf. The arms of De Refuge occur in the illuminations ; the volume was afterwards in the Bibliotheca Tristaniana and subse- quently in the Cabinet de livres du Comte Pontchartrain. The comment or exposition of Grosseteste is unpublished. A MAGNIFCENTLY ILLUMINATED MANU- SCRIPT. The six miniatures in this volume consist of scenes in the life of Boethius, with groups of male and female figures clothed in French and Italian costumes of the period, with backgrounds of castles, landscapes, gothic interiors, &c., one in two sections of Boethius in prison and Fortune turning her wheel. These are sur- rounded by exquisitely painted and illuminated scroll borders of flowers and fruit ; 18 very fine large illuminated ornamental initials, 260 smaller ones with short marginal decorations, and numerous other illuminated details and ornamental pen letters.
