![I [ 18 ] continual action of the river; and the water forced itfelf through in an ob¬ lique direction, with inexpreffible fury, and an hollow found. Alter having continued fome time, contemplating in filent admiration the awful fublimity of this wonderful landfcape, we defcended; and below the fall we eroded the river, which was exceedingly agitated. Hitherto I had only viewed the cata- ra£t tideways; but here it opened by degrees, and difplayed another pidture, which I enjoyed at my leifure, as I fat myfelf down upon the oppolite bank.
