    EDITOR'S FOREWORD HE volumes which it is proposed to issue in the X Library of Abnormal Psychological Types will serve to bring into collected form, in the English lan- guage, a number of psycho-pathological studies of the first importance at present available only to the stu- dent who is equally at home with French and German, the Scandinavian languages and Russian. The scientific value of such an undertaking is as apparent as its formidable nature, involving, as it does, patient research and the cost, in most cases, of expert translations. It is hoped that this Library will eventually provide a unique reservoir of psychopathological material, alike of use and value to the medical and legal pro- fessions and to all serious students of eugenics, biology, sociology, penal reform, and education. MY thanks and gratitude, and those of my fellow- translator, Dr Olga I liner, are due to my friend Dr W. A. Brend, M.A., B.Sc, M.D., Lecturer on Forensic Medicine, Charing Cross Hospital, for his invaluable help in the preparation of this text. Not only did he read the typescript and annotate it, but by putting at our disposal his great knowledge of forensic medicine, made lighter a task for more than one reason somewhat formidable.
