Microscopical examination of deposit Satisfactory. pH value ... 6.8 Lead solvency . 0.12 Report This sample of water is of satisfactory organic purity, the high oxygen absorbed figure being due to organic matter in solution ; micro¬ scopically also it is good, there being a few fragments only of vegetable matter. The water contains no lead and the lead solvency to fresh clean lead is normal for this supply. I am of the opinion that the water is suitable for a Public Supply. (Signed) W. GORDON CAREY. June, 1946. The number of dwelling houses supplied from piped water mains is approximately 16,000. It is estimated that 11,500 of these are supplied direct to the house, whilst the remaining 4,500 (approx.) are dependent upon outside taps in yards, etc. SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE BOROUGH. C. A.
