No house was completed during the year by the Council and 3t) were erected by private owners. The building of 24 flats at Croft- side and 11 houses and 12 flats at St. Helen’s Street, was almost completed by the Council at the end of the year. During the past 19 years 415 Council and 267 private houses have been built in the district. A great deal of work was done to increase slum clearance and further to the representations of unfitness which w^ere made in regard to 25 houses in Sullart Street, resulting in 3 Clearance Areas being declared in respect of which 3 Clearance Orders were made, after a Public Enquiry the Orders were confirmed by the Minister. In addition, a further 6 representations were made in respect of individual unfit houses, resulting in the Council deciding to make 6 Closing Orders.
