![3 Reviews. he has succeeded in giving some scientific interest to the subject, by comparing tliese observations of the illness of Sarah Jacob and of the post-mortem examinations with those made in other cases of Starvation.—Westminster Eevieiv. Dr. Fowler has issued a very useful book, giving a great deal of valuable information, apart from its being a complete history of the case of the Welsh Fasting-Girl.— Welshman. This work bears a threefold character : it is a conse- cutive and minute narrative of one of the most extraor- dinary impostures the world has ever seen; an examina- tion into the moral and legal aspects of the case in its facts ; and a medical contribution to the medical history of Starvation As a narrative of events the volume is painfully interesting, and would be morbidly so but for the scientific spirit that pervades it, &c. &c.—South Wales Press. We believe [the work] will be hailed with satisfaction by the public, and will do much towards discouraging such frauds in futwre:'—Cardigan and Tivy Side Adver- tiser. Dr. Fowler's book contains, besides a complete history of the painful case of the Welsh Girl, much useful in- formation regarding cases of prolonged Starvation; it possesses therefore a physiological value altogether apart from its sensational one.—Edinburgh Medical Journal. For those who may be sufiiciently interested in this extraordinary case to wish for a permanent record of its various stages, this narrative by Dr. Fowler will be found serviceable.—City Press. 1871.
