Nicolai is very warm in the praifes of gamboge in this intention. He prefers the affociation of it with kali, or the vegetable fixed alkali, under which form it operates not only as a purgative, but like- wife asa powerful diuretic. Formerly it was ufual to join a variety of fub- {tances, but particularly alkaline and neutral falts with gamboge, under the notion that they aéted as correctors of its fuppofed virulence; but this notion, and the practice founded upon it, are now laid afide.
