S I R, IN juflice to your abilities, and to the indefatigable in- buftry, by which you have attained a fafe and eafy method, of cure, in illnefl'es which, though common in this coun¬ try, are, of all the various fpecies of malady, the moil afflicting, and the mod dangerous to human exigence. In juflice, I fay, Sir, to you, and in compalhon to the wretched victims of dileafe, I take this opportunity to de¬ clare, and I give you full liberty to publifh the declars:- tion, that I was unfortunately born with a very delicate conditution, and a weak fyftem of nerves ; that from my earlied infancy to the age of maturity, my health was con¬ tinually didurbed with almoft every fpecics of fever, with violent colds, fore throats, and pains in the ears, attended with all the variety of fymptoms which accompany a relaxed habit, and an irritable date of nerves. In this very weak Rate of health, I undertook the writing the Hiflory of the Stewarts; and I do not know whether it is.not impertinent to add, that feven years fevere application, reduced an originally tender frame to a date of infupportable weaknefs and debility : continual pains in the domach, indigedion, trembling of the nerves, drivering fits, repeated pains in the ears and throat, kept my mind and body in continual agitation ; and marked, thole which would otherwife have been the brighted of my days, with forrow and defpair. In one of thefe fits of defpair your pamphlet came to my hands. Its contents awakened my curiofity ; I fent for you ; you imdertook my cure with alacrity, and gave me the pleafing hope of a redoration of health, or rather a new date of conditution ; and I have the happinefs to declare, that a great part of my difeafe immediately gave way to your bal- famic ebenees, and to your aerial, setherial, magnetic, and electric-applications and influences ; the pains in my ears and throat lubfided, the fevers and irritations of my nerves left me, and my fpirits were fudiciently invigorated to break from a confinement of fix Aveeks, and to exereife in the open air. Thefe exercifes I have fince in all weathers repeated, without omifiion, with a high degree of impu¬ nity; and, from the general amendment of my health, I am enabled to emerge out of a life of kllenefs which I ab¬ hor, and to renew my labours for the fervice of the public. I have alfo the greated reafon to hope, that with the blefs- Ing of God, I dr all enjoy a more comfortable exigence for the remainder of mv life, than I had any proAped of en¬ joying](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b3187163x_0069.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
