Gentlemen : I am in receipt of a letter from my father enclosing a note from you, as a Committee of the Faculty of the Atlanta Medical College, requesting for publication a speech delivered by me, on the 13th instant, at a supper given to the Students of the College. Knowing how awkward a Supper-Table Speech generally appears in print, I would fain decline the proffered honor; but supposing its publication may tend in some sort to direct attention to your young College, and thereby indirectly benefit our common home, Atlanta, I forego all selfish considerations and will grant your request. I will be at home in a few days, and will furnish you my manuscript as soon as practicable. With distinguished considerations for yourselves, gentlemen, and high hopes for the success of your noble enterprise, I have the honor to subscribe myself your young friend, N. J. HAMMOND.
