    55 Ribera (Joseph) and Rosa (Salvator) This remarkable volume is divided into two parts : I. Works of Ribera. Besides 18 engravings after pictures by Ribera (including two mezzotints) there are 18 other engravings of the greatest interest. Of the very rare and important etchings by the master there are the following (we give the Bartsch numbers): nos. 1 (copy only), 3, (apparently copy), 5 (original and a copy), 6 (original and copy), 7 (the 2 impressions), 10 (but this impression is signed in full by Ribera on the stone on the left), 13 (the two states) and the engraving described by Bartsch on p. 87 as possibly doubtful. There are also two engravings after drawings. Further, there is a remarkable series of 12 prints, which have a title in a cartouche, “‘ Livre de Portraiture recueilly des Oeuvres de Joseph de Ribera,” and have added an old pencil note, “‘ gravé a eau forte par Ferdinand.” This series contains Bartsch nos. 15, 16 and 17, but there are nine more and this is evidently the book of engravings, the existence of which Bartsch suspected, but had never seen. II. Salvator Rosa (who was Ribera’s pupil): A series of 134 engravings by and after this master. There are 31 engravings after pictures, the others are what must be an almost complete series of his engravings in originals and some copies. It includes the large prints Bartsch nos. 2-6 and 24. £60 56 Rome. Prospetto del Nuovo Navale di Ripetta. Old Dutch vellum, stamped centre device. 3 parts bound together con- taining 35 + 17 + 36 engraved plates illustrating the Renaissance buildings of Rome. This is the most complete edition of this work which contains the additional fourth part of views of Roman Palaces, which was added in 1699. 60 Rossini (L.) Le Antichita Romane. Rome, 1823 £10/10/- Oblong folio. Old blue half morocco, rubbed, front cover loose. Frontispiece and a fine series of 100 plates of views of Rome. The plates are unfolded. 61 Rubeis (Jacobus de) Insignium Romae Templorum Prospectus exteriores in- Folio. Half calf. Engraved title, with dedication to Innocent XI. Fullpage allegorical frontispiece and 72 fine engravings of views and plans of Roman Renaissance architecture. Oblong folio. Old half calf. 138 plates. An interesting reconstruction of ancient Rome.
