The uniformity of this ratio is evidence of the existence of a law, but it is difficult to say upon what that law depends, because the ratios are different for different varieties of kinship. Thus— to confine ourselves to those in the second grade, which are sufficiently numerous to give averages on which de- pendence may be placed—we find that the sum of the ratios of G., U., N., P. to those of ¢., a.m) p., is also a little more than 2 to 1.
