    in analytical chemistry — Berzelius and Rose, to whose works, especially to the last German edition (1838) of the Handbuch der Analytischen Chemie of the latter, the reader is referred for much inform- ation which could not be included in the more limited plan of the present work. But several of the processes described are of very recent invention, and new to treatises on the subject. Some of these will be found of considerable value. An Appendix is added, in which the mode of calculating the atomic constitution of a substance from its per-centage composition, when known, is described, with the methods of taking the specific gravity of matter in different conditions. Numerical tables are also appended, which have been formed to expedite the calculations of analysis. University College, July, 1842.
