Orso, Giovanni di Reno, 1475). 4to, Roman type, 25 lines, 34 numb. leaves with sign. Rubri- cated, initials supplied in red. Old MS.-vellum. Frs. 2500.— Hain-Cop.* 218. Proctor 7146. An extremely rare edition of this romance, printed in a very curious, small Roman type, attributed by Proctor to Giovanni di Reno at Vicenza. This printer worked there from the year 1475. Pellechet no. 150 describes a copy of this edition at Ste.-Geneviéve bound together with another incunable (Hain 12894) which has the full’colophon of Johannes de Reno at Sant’ Orso, dated 1475. This book has the same types as our incunabulum and therefore it is certain that this has been printed at Sant’ Orso by Johannes de Reno. It is possible that he continued printing at Vi- cenza already during the last months of 1475. We know at first a product of him printed at Vicenza with the date 1476. A precious edition of this romance, very popular in the 15th century written in the style of Boccaccio. Excellently preserved copy, very large and clean. No copy in U. S. A. acc. to Census. AENEAS SYLVIUS PICCOLOMINI (PIUS If). Epistula ad Ma- humetem. Treviso, (Gerardus Lisa), 1475. 4to, Gothic type with Roman capitals, 25 lines, 56 numb. leaves without sign. Rubricated, with an initial supplied in red and blue with pen drawn ornaments. Old MS.-veilum. Frs. 750.— Hain* 177—176. Proctor 6464. Cat. Hawkins 311. First dated edition, of some typographical interest, as the minus- cula of the type (3*) used here are Gothic and the capitals are Roman. This letter by Pius II addressed to the sultan of Turkey Mahommed I], is of the greatest historical interest. The letter is dated: Siena 1460 and is written before the council at Mantua. Gerardus Lisa or Gerard van der Leye of Harlebeke printed some twenty books at Treviso. He is the first printer of this town and began printing there in 1471. Very clean and large copy of this extremely interesting book. Very rare. Only one copy in U. S. A. acc. to Census.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b33161616_0013.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
