Fine original binding, brown calf, over wooden boards, ridily blind stamped and well preserved; 2 catches for clasps, one clasp gone. a Frs. 1500.— Hain (not seen) -Cop. 1983. Proctor 8310. Pellechet 1496. A very rare book and the only 15th century edition. Ulrich Gering of Constanz, one of the first printers at Paris, entered in 1494 into a new partnership with Berchtold Rembolt of Strassburg, and this lasted on into the 16th century. A very fine, large and clean copy; some wormholes on beginning and going through a part of the book, affecting only some letters; the lower, white part of the last leaf cut off and supplied by white paper. Finely printed in gothic letter, 2 cols. of 64 lines, 430 (of 464) unn. leaves (2 blanks are missing), rubricated through- out, the first capitals of each of the five parts finely supplied in several colours and 2 also in gold, elongated and with floral orna- ments, the other capitals supplied in red and blue. Printed in red and black. Brown calf, gilt back (18th cent.) Frs. 1800.— Hain 2203 (not seen). Copinger II, 243. Not in Proctor. Pellechet 1662. The Standard Work of early Medical Science and the Capital Work of Avicenna the most famous Arabian physician. Avicenna (Abu Ali al-Husain ibn Abdallah ibn Sina) was born 980 at Afshena and died in 1037 at Hamadan.
