At the close of that period both presented similar features, so that one description is sufficient for hem. The serum was abundant and quite clear, form- ng a wide zone around the small clot occupying the centre ■f the preparation. The red corpuscles were well preserved ind were irregularly massed together. White corpuscles rere present in extreme abundance, their numbers being so jftreat as to cause the formation of a white fringe along rdio.4 die edge of the clot visible to the naked eye, whilst under e microscope very many fields were entirely occupied by asses of them. Very few of the corpuscles now retained .ny movement or showed any changes in form, and the ajority were circular, finely molecular, and contained a ariable number of refringent granules. Twenty-four hours ater—forty-six from the date at which they were obtained— >ut little change had occurred in either specimen. The white orpuscles had become more or less distinctly vacuolated nd all movement had ceased; the red corpuscles were well •reserved and the serum was abundant, quite clear and free !f any traces of bacteria or vibriones. Five days after the last xamination the changes in the leucocytes had advanced onsiderably, increased vacuolation being visible in some, whilst in others the granular mass of the bioplast pro- truded more or less from one or other side of a large clear ' acuole; in some the two bodies were almost entirely sepa- ate, whilst in others total separation had been completed nd the granular mass exhibited various stages of disin- egration—a process which resulted in the appearance of free 1 m
