![I have, with all the diligence in my power, endeavouTcd to supply this deficiency ; and have fi'eely compared the experience of my predecessors with my own observations. In this exercise I have heen more successful than 1 expected; for though in no instance have I found satisfactory descriptions, I have nevertheless remarked, that the desultory and incidental reflections all tend to illustrate and confimi the general delineation which I have ventured to give. Coincidences of this kind, when they can be brought to bear decidedly upon any pathological question, are very vahiable. They vouch for the accuracy of the different observers, and prove that their minds jiavc not been warped by the influence of precon- ceived opinions.
