    state^ this report of the dimensions is suf- ficiently accurate. The left side of the prostate will be divided pretty nearly through its length and breadth, the right side but partially; for it seems neither safe .nor necessary to cut the whole of the pros- tate on both sides through; but, at the same time, some room is gained for the passage of the stone, by the little wound on the left side. The beak is very short, and when buried in the groove of the staff, nothing is presented to the undivided parts but a sharp cutting edge; so that the in- strument may be pushed on as slowly, and with as little force, as the operator pleases. » Where the lanceolated part ends, the blade becomes a wide channel, adapted to receiving the fore finger of the left hand, to be introduced previously to withdrawing the staff.
