It may be clearly understood, from what has been said respecting the nature of this dis- ease, that although the operation of the poison is to destroy the energy of the spinal system ; yet that general death is induced by the influence of this circumstance upon the other systems. This circumstance ap- pears sufficient to account for no single re^ medy being efficacious in Hydrophobia. Prior to entering into an investigation of the remedies, proper to be employed in the treat- ment of Hydrophobia, it may be of impor- tance to attend to some circumstances which occur in affections of this kind. It has been mentioned that the injury of the spinal canal, by the cause of Hydro- phobia, is not the immediate cause of death.
