    AMYGDALA DTJLCIS. The seeds of Amygdalus com- munis, var. dulcis. Sweet almond. Mistura Amygdalte. Compound powder of amonds 2^ oz., water 1 pint. Acizoji.—Diluent; demulcent. 'Useful as a basis for cough mixtures. Almond cakes have been recom- mended by Dr. Pavey instead of bread in diabetic subjects. Dose.—For an adult, fgj to fgij. For a child a year old, f3j. Oleum Amygdalae. The oil expressed from bitter or sweet almonds. Action.—The same as the mixture. Dose.—For an adult, f3j to fgss. in emulsion. Pulvis AmygdalfB Compositu.s. (Formerly Confectio Amygdalas. Ph. Lend.) Sweet almonds 8 oz., sugar 4 oz., gum acacia 1 oz. Used only for the Mistura Amygdalae. Dose.—60 to 120 grs. AMYL NITRIS. C,„H„0,N03. Produced by the action of nitric acid on amvlie alcohol. A^ion. Antispasmodic. Useful in some bronchial aiiections. Dose.—By inhalation, the vapour of mij to tnv. To be used with caution. AMYLENE. Prepared by the distillation of amylic alcohol with chloride of zinc. Action.—Anaesthetic, llecommended and used by the late Dr. Snow. Seldom employed now. AMYLTJM. Starch procured from the seed of Tri- ticum vulgare. Common Wheat.
