About this work
Description
On the left, a woman squeezes a sponge into a bowl supported by younger woman; the woman with the sponge is probably to be interpreted as saint Irene. On the right, there is a balancing scene with two men: a man wearing the hat of a doctor or guild master treats Saint Sebastian's arm with a surgical probe or extractor, while the saint's head is supported by a younger man (perhaps to be understood as a surgeon's apprentice)
