![This group accounted for 41 per cent of the total deaths, again the highest proportion so far recorded in any year. Coronary disease was the most frequent individual cause in this group. Births The total of 317 births to residents of the District during 1955 was an increase of 50 on the previous year, and was comprised as follows :—- Males Females Total. 165 152 Legitimate ... ... 164 150 Illegitimate ... ... 1 2 The illegitimate births were three less than in the previous year. There were seven still births, three males and four females. None of these still births was illegitimate. Deaths of Infants Under One Year There were four deaths of infants under one year old, two male and two female, all of whom were legitimate. All of these infant deaths occurred in the first week of life—three in the first twenty-four hours.
