![form a confiderable part of our objects of prafilice, at the Difpenfary. I was more particularly induced to give it, in this fpecies of difeafe, becaufe it is pro- bable, that fome effufion into the cavity of the cheft, frequently accompanies chronic affections of the lungs. Swel- ling of the face is a very common fymp- tom in fuch coughs, and their progrefs is generally clofed with anafarca of the lower extremities. The ufe of Digitalis, in fuch cafes, has proved very beneficial 3 it has given, at lead, more relief than any other medicine which I have employed. The utility of Digitalis, in thefe cafes, may be explained in another manner. The lungs may be fuppofed to acquire a habit of fecreting a fuperfluous quantity t of mucus, in confequence of repeated | ^inflammatory attacks, and the ftimulus of a harrafling cough, continued during ] a great part of every year.
