The XXIII International Congress of the History of Medicine took place in London on 2nd-9th September 1972. The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine, as the Wellcome Library then was, was heavily involved: various members of staff were on the organising committee and the Insitute provided the secretariat for the Congress.
