![ANASARCA. Set Drcp/y. ANEURISM. Or an enlargement cf an Artery, (known by its pulfation.) Treatment. Bleeding, and proper evacuations ; with low fpare diet. Lead may be bound down pretty tight on the part. If thefe fail, recourfe mail be had to the operation of tying ic above and below the tumour. ANGINA GANGRENOSA, Or putrid fore Throat. Symptoms. Giddinefs in the head, alternate heat and cold, and at length, after ibme hours, conftant great heat: fometirnes vomiting or purging ;' pains in the head ; eyes inflamed and watery, as in the meafks ; aniiety, faintnefs, fore throat, with, florid colour; or elfe, a broad irregular fpot, of a pale white colour furrounded with red. On the fecond or third day the face, neck, brealt, and hands fwelled, and as if eryfipelatous ; an efflorefcence of many fmall red pimples fometirnes appeanon the arms and other parts. The throat flonghs, ulcerates, and is very painful. Offenfive tafte and delirium towards night. Treatment. Avoid bleeding and evacuation, gentle fudorifics excepted ; and purging fhould be checked. Give firft a gentle emetic, then medicines with contrayerva and conf. cardiac; or decodion of bark. Gargle or rather fyringe the throat with, deccft. pect. cum rad. cop tray, to which, vinegar, myrrh, and honey of rofes may be added. If the (loughs do not feparate, touch them with a rag dipped in a mixture of mel. asgypt. one drachm, and two ounces of che preceding gargle ; or gargle with water acidulated with (p. of fait. To reftore the patient givt bark and elix. vitrioli, with proper ftrengthening diet. ANISEEDS. Carminative from iv. gr. to xv. or in infufion to iv. ounces. ANODYNES. Opium crude or extraft, from on fourth of a gr. to two gr. tindt* theb. from x. drops to xl. or more, fyr. e mecon. from one drachm to half an ounce, elix. pareg. from xx. gr. to a drachm and a half, ther. ar,dr. & conf. dam. from half a fcruple to a drachm, philon.
