    46d ANNALS OF was ihcreafed to an alarming degree. Throughout this day, the agonies of my pa- tient were fuch as every practitioner may have witnefled in the laft Itage of this awful difeafe. An eminent phylician in this city was deftred to vifit the child along with me, who, feeing the inefficacy of the ordinary re- medies, advifed that calomel fhould be tried, as having been attended with much fuccefs in America. Accordingly, three grains were given this evening, in a tea-fpoonful of the following : ft. Syrup, aeeti. si. Extract, papaver. alb. gr. i m, cap. cochlear, parv. 2do. quaq. hor. On the morning of the 2zd, there was an appearanc of abatement of the difeafe, and the calomel was repeated in the fame quan- tity. During the day, the found of refpira- tion was foftened. He coughed frequently ; his pulfe fell; he had feveral loofe {tools; and the difeafe evidently abated. The fyrup was repeated every two hours, and the fame dole of calomel at bed-time.
