Description

Correspondence and papers. MS.5122/1 through to MS.5122/113 (dated 1808-1844) comprise miscellaneous correspondence and papers, mainly relating to the University of Edinburgh (appointments to chairs, the botanic garden, the museum of natural history, building projects, and other University affairs). Correspondents include Alexander Monro secundus, Daniel Rutherford and other professors at Edinburgh, and the Revd G H Baird, Principal of the University. MS.5122/114 through to MS.5122/123 (dated 1815-1825) comprise letters and petitions, mainly from the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Edinburgh. The subject matter mainly concerns legislation before Parliament, including bills for the regulation of madhouses in Scotland, 1815, and to amend the Apothecaries Act, 1825.
