![t «7 ] ,. ;. ■ A dofe of fomc medicine of the purgatite kind mould be then interpofed-—fuch as jalap —rhubarb^-fal. glaub* or what is flill betr ter, as more immediately anfwering the in- tention, an ounce of oleum ricini* It is furprizing to fee what effects will fometimes follow the exhibition of thefe medicines. Large knots of worms, amount- ing to fome hundreds, have been Voided, and the patient, from being reduced to the laft extremity, has recovered health and vigour. But if, as fometimes happens, the firfr. three or four dofes of the decoction mould not have the defired effect, the medicine muft be continued for a few days longer, omit- ting it on thofe mornings on which the purge is given ; and it rarely happens, that fo many as eight or nine dofes are taken, without producing a favourable event. Bad confequences have been faid to arife from the too liberal ufe of this medicine. For my own part, I never found any; and I think I have tried, it in as many different forms, and on as many different fubjects, as mod of the medical profeffion.
