[1519] COLLECTION OF 15 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS executed in pencil, sepia and wash, comprising portrait studies, views, and decorative subjects, some of them inscribed by Whistler himself. A most interesting Collection, The Drawings in several cases are sketches by Whistler for many of his famous Etchings. One is the interior of a café, drawing in pencil, size 434 by 7%4 in.; another a wash drawing representing the etching “‘ Doorway and Vine,” size 614 by 3% in.; another a figure of a woman in profile to right, very probably ‘‘ Fumette,”” wash drawing, size 714 by 434 in.; another a little sea piece, ‘‘ Nocturne Salute,” draw- ing in sepia, size 314 by 61% in.; another little sea piece, “‘ The Large Pool,” a draw- ing in sepia, size 314 by 4 in. Also large and important drawing “ Holzthrum Wooden Tower.” This drawing depicts a mediaeval building with peasant passing under archway; drawing in pencil, size 14 by 9 in. Another “ The Effigy of a Warrior lying on his Tomb,” with skeleton of a man seen below; above the tomb is an armorial tablet with numerous Coats-of-Arms; drawing in pencil, size 14 by 9 in. “ Heidelberg,” a street scene with figures, drawing in pencil, size 814 by 5%4 in. Also other drawings. The drawings are mounted on sunk mounts and bound in full crushed levant morocco extra, g. e.
