![during the said term [or, if an outdoor apprentice, and wages to be paid, here set forth the amounts arranged for]. [It is sometimes usual for the father of the apprentice here to covenant for the provision of clothes and medical attendance.] (Signatures and date follow.) This document should be signed and sealed, and if the paper be not already stamped, the stamping must be done within thirty Transfer of days of the date. The stamp costs 25. 6d., except in Services. tpe case of children apprenticed at the sole charge of a parish or public charity, when no stamp is required. In Ireland no stamp is required unless a premium of over £10 is paid. When an apprenticeship is assigned, the following form may be used:— Memorandum of agreement made this day of between (1st master), of the first part (new master), of the second part, and (apprentice), of the third part.—Whereas by indenture dated the said (apprentice), did put himself apprentice to the said (1st master), and the apprenticeship thus commenced has been continued up to this date. Now, therefore, the said (1st master) doth hereby assign the said indenture and apprentice to the said (2nd master), for the remainder of the term reserved in the said indenture; the said (2nd master) agrees to take the said (apprentice) as his apprentice for the remainder of the said term, subject to all the covenants of the said indenture ; and the said (apprentice) agrees to serve the said (2nd master) as an apprentice to the end of the said term, subject to all the covenants as aforesaid. (Signatures.) For the transfer of an apprentice, the consent of all the parties to the indentures must be obtained. It should be observed that a boy cannot be legally bound_ for a longer term than seven years. Nor can he be compelled to serve after he attains the age of twenty-one. If, therefore, his indentures are unexpired when he becomes twenty-one, he can refuse to serve any longer. The indenture of apprenticeship is a contract wherein it is expressly provided that the apprentice shall be taught the mystery, art, or trade of his master. Herein the apprentice is at an advantage, or should be, compared with the lad who is taken on at a small wage, which he accepts because of the chance of “picking up” the trade of his master. Moreover, his “ status ” is a different one in the eye of the law, Legal and has different duties annexed thereto, both on the part Points- of the master and that of the apprentice himself.
