    on the subject to the then next Sessions. That Committee, in a Report which set forth their reasons at length, recommended that an Asylum should be built for the County of Worcester alone, and such Report was received and adopted by the Court, but the appointment of a Committee to carry the Act into operation was postponed until Michaelmas Sessions, 1846, when one was appointed, with full powers; at the same time instructions were specially given to them to inquire further on the subject, and to report to the next Sessions how far the result of such inquiry would induce them to recommend the Court to rescind the resolution of the last Epiphany Sessions “not to join any other County,” and to take such steps prior to the next Sessions as might be desirable to ascertain upon what terms it was likely that a junction with some other County might be effected. A very full Report was presented to the Epiphany Sessions of 1847, recommending that application should be made to the City of Worcester to unite with the County, and that an Asylum should be erected for 200 Pauper Lunatics; which Report was received and adopted. Such application having been made to the City, and acceded to, several conferences took place between a Committee of the Town Council and the Committee appointed by the County, and ultimately the terms were agreed upon for uniting the City with the County; and at a Meeting of both Bodies, held on the 23rd January, 1847, it was ordered that Adver¬ tisements should be published for tenders of land for the building.
