Secret intersex. Part 1.

The first in a two-part series looking at three families with intersex children. Firstly are Ilizane, age 16 and her sister Xenia, 6. Both girls inherited AIS, a syndrome in which testosterone is rejected by their bodies so that in the womb their natural XY chromosomal development was diverted from masculinity to femininity. Louise is in her twenties and was born fully hermaphroditic which is very rare. Her mother was encouraged to raise her as a girl and not tell her about her sexuality which has caused a lot of problems. The programme shows her vaginoplasty surgery. Bianca is 6 months old, she was born with CAH (congenital adrenal hypoplasia), a condition in which too much testosterone is produced in the womb. She undergoes surgery and will have to take cortisone for the rest of her life to stop her testosterone production masculinising her.
