Leipzig, 1927. £3 There may hardly be any student devoted to some branch or other of Germanic philology and literature who has not experienced some difficulty in making sure of the periodical literature concerning his subject. In future Diesch’s bibliography will reduce such labours to a minimum. The work gives an exact conspectus of all periodical publications dealing with Germanic philology and literature and issued in Germany or abroad from 1650 to 1925. The material brought together amounts to about 5,000 items, the general arrangement of which is by subjects, while within each special section the chronological order is employed. Each entry states the mode and time of publication, and records one library in which a complete set of the periodical in question is to be found. The book will thus be of great practical value not only for the student, but also for the librarian and bookseller. With this work in hand every librarian will be able to check the respective periodical series under his charge. In short, the bibliography of Diesch claims to be the indispensable work of reference to the student and bibliographer alike.
