![I cannot Record any particulars of my intercourse with the patients which would in my opinion he desirable to present in a Report. There are always a few who are of a sober and moral tone of mind, and some to whom religious subjects are a welcome topic of conversation. They read the books which I lay periodi¬ cally upon the tables of the wrork rooms, and always expect them, and complain if they are late in coming. I am unwilling to close my Report without noticing the ex¬ cellent moral effect produced by the employment of the patients in the Refractory Ward on the female side. The scolding, , quarrelling, and foul language, which must otherwise be fre¬ quent amongst that class of patients, and which it is utterly impossible to cure, are thus in a great degree prevented, by their time and attention being occupied in such work as skilful observation points out as most interesting to them. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, EDWARD SWANN, . ] Chaplain.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30305044_0022.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
